In a room of clinicians, engineers, industry leaders and students across disciplines, the resounding message of last night’s “Frontiers of Biotechnological Innovation in Medicine & Surgery Planning” event was of very exciting times ahead when it comes to our homegrown medtech.
The evening’s jam-packed program of stand-out innovators – including past National Bionics Innovation Prize winner, Dr Joe Dusseldorp – delved into a range of recent device breakthroughs, as well as Australia’s role in the fast-changing world of medical biotechnology.
The night also featured a lively panel discussion hosted by Bionics Gamechangers Australia Board Director, Petra Andrén which explored the role of clinician leaders in innovation and commercialisation efforts, and ways of bringing new neurobionic technologies into clinical practice.
“I hope the students who attended the event heard the message that studying medicine doesn’t just give you the skills to treat diseases but also the opportunity to work with people to discover new ways to help them live their lives in the best way possible… technology promises so much more opportunity for us to do this at an astonishing scale,” said event co-organiser, Dr Joe Dusseldorp.
Bionics Gamechangers Australia CEO, Dr Robyn Stokes added: “Great ideas truly do come from all corners, and this event was a fantastic opportunity not only to showcase the extraordinary medical bionic advances already changing patients’ lives, but also to inspire the next crop of young innovators whose careers are only just beginning.”
Bionics Gamechangers Australia was thrilled to co-host this event with the University of Sydney and Sydney Neurobionics Collaboration (SyNC).
